Requires fuel gas alarms in any room containing a gas appliance in single-family and multi-family residences with active natural gas or propane service connections

Fuel gas alarms must be tested by a nationally recognized lab and conform to Underwriters Laboratories Standard 1484 or 2075; battery-powered or plug-in devices are permitted in existing homes

State fire marshal may promulgate rules for implementation, with emphasis on public education and voluntary compliance rather than punitive enforcement

Enforcement limited to existing building inspections, fire safety inspections, or certificate of occupancy processes; violations result in written warnings with opportunity to cure

Effective January 1, 2030; does not require interconnection or remote monitoring, and does not impose liability on gas utility providers
