Health coverage plans in Louisiana must cover genetic testing to diagnose SCN2A-associated medical conditions when ordered by a treating physician or advanced practice provider, effective January 1, 2027

Required coverage for medically necessary SCN2A treatments includes anti-seizure medications, rehabilitative/habilitative therapies (physical, occupational, speech, behavioral), durable medical equipment, assistive technology, and nutritional/feeding management services

Medical necessity determinations must be made by the enrollee's treating physician, with written denials required to include specific reasons and appeal rights under R.S. 22:1121

Insurers cannot deny coverage based on disability, developmental status, or preexisting conditions, and cost-sharing requirements cannot exceed those applied to other medical or surgical benefits

Limited benefit health insurance policies are exempt from these requirements
