Courts are prohibited from adopting rules that ban cell phone use in courthouse areas outside the courtroom, ensuring citizens can access communication, research, and information related to their judicial matters

Individual courts retain authority to adopt rules prohibiting cell phone use inside the courtroom itself

Applies to all Louisiana courts including the Supreme Court, courts of appeal, family courts, juvenile courts, parish courts, city courts, municipal courts, and traffic courts

Creates new Chapter 44 of Title 13 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes (R.S. 13:6001 and 6002)
