All mayors must complete at least 16 hours of training annually through workshops and courses offered by state agencies, associations, or groups that provide local government training

Required training must cover 13 categories including the Lawrason Act, public budgeting and procurement, ethics, Open Meetings and Public Records laws, emergency preparedness, zoning, and parliamentary procedure

Credit toward the 16-hour requirement includes training already mandated by state law such as ethics, sexual harassment prevention, cybersecurity, campaign finance, procurement, and emergency preparedness training

Louisiana Municipal Association must notify mayors of requirements, maintain compliance records, and certify each mayor as compliant or noncompliant by March 31 annually; compliance records are public

Applies to all mayors elected on or after January 1, 2027; governing authority members in municipalities with population of 15,000 or less may participate voluntarily
