Special masters appointed in complex civil litigation involving multiple consolidated cases must comply with the ethical requirements of the Louisiana Code of Judicial Conduct.

Appointments must also follow Federal Civil Rule 53 standards for appointment and disqualification of masters, unless those requirements conflict with state law.

Applies specifically to cases consolidated pursuant to Louisiana Supreme Court orders or rules where cases share common questions of fact.

Adds new Subsection G to R.S. 13:4165, the existing statute governing special master appointments, duties, powers, and compensation.
