Louisiana Department of Health must develop a comprehensive, evidence-based, statewide trauma-informed training program for public school personnel including teachers, administrators, counselors, nurses, paraprofessionals, and school resource officers.

Training must cover adverse childhood events (ACEs) occurring before age 18, including physical/emotional/sexual abuse, neglect, household substance abuse, domestic violence, and parental incarceration.

Program must teach school staff to identify trauma symptoms in children, respond with supportive non-punitive strategies, and provide referral guidance to school-based or community mental health services.

Training must emphasize self-care and secondary trauma prevention for educators and promote culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate approaches.

LDH may consult with the Department of Education, child welfare agencies, and mental health professionals, and may deliver training through in-person instruction or online modules.
