Louisiana House of Representatives expresses condolences on the death of D'Orsay Deavenport Bryant, Jr., M.D., who passed away on February 20, 2026

Dr. Bryant was born September 9, 1932, graduated from Howard University (1954) and Howard University School of Medicine (1958), and served as a captain in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965

Established an obstetrics and gynecology practice in Baton Rouge in 1965 and served for ten years as the only Black board-certified OB-GYN in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas

Served as president of the Baton Rouge NAACP branch from 1966 to 1980, was a plaintiff-intervenor in school desegregation litigation, and established the Acadian Women's Clinic in 1978

Held leadership positions including president of the Louisiana State Medical Association (1970, 1985) and served as clinical instructor at LSU College of Medicine from 1966 to 1981
