Louisiana State Law Institute directed to study procedures for issuing mandatory protective orders upon arrest for domestic abuse

Report findings due to the House of Representatives no later than January 4, 2027

Study references Colorado Criminal Code Section 18-1-1001, which requires mandatory protective orders against anyone charged with domestic violence

Current Louisiana law (R.S. 46:2131 et seq.) allows protective orders only when requested by the victim; study would examine automatic issuance upon arrest
