Health insurers must cover medically necessary dental procedures for cancer patients, including fluoride treatment and procedures to reduce infection or treat tooth loss within 30 days prior to chemotherapy, biological therapy, or radiation therapy

Coverage extends to dental procedures needed to address infection, tooth loss, or decay resulting directly or indirectly from cancer treatment

Insurers must cover obturators for patients with defective oral cavities caused by cancer treatment, as well as related laboratory assessments, medications, and treatments

Routine preventive dental care (cleanings, sealants) is explicitly excluded from required coverage, and the mandate does not apply to excepted benefits, limited benefit plans, or short-term policies under 12 months

Applies to new policies issued on or after January 1, 2027, with existing policies required to conform by their renewal date or no later than January 1, 2028
