LA SB157

Provides 6 weeks (240 hours) of paid parental leave at 100% base pay for eligible public school employees who have worked at least 12 months with a local education agency

Covers qualifying events including birth, pregnancy loss/stillbirth, adoption placement, and foster care placement, with leave usable continuously or intermittently within 12 months of the event

Prohibits requiring employees to use sick, annual, or other accrued leave before taking paid parental leave; leave runs concurrently with FMLA and does not affect tenure rights

Creates the "Paid Parental Leave For Educators Fund" in the state treasury to reimburse LEAs for substitute teacher costs, with implementation subject to legislative appropriation

Applies to charter schools and requires school boards to implement by January 1, 2027, with regulations adopted by November 1, 2026
