Health insurers must reimburse licensed athletic trainers for covered services if they would reimburse other health care providers for the same services, provided the athletic trainer has a physician referral and acts within their legal scope of practice.

Applies only to health plans that already cover the particular type of health service or medical condition within an athletic trainer's scope of practice.

Insurers may apply standard cost-sharing (deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance) and utilization review to athletic trainer services, but these cannot be more restrictive than those applied to other health care providers under the same policy.

Amends Chapter 175 of the General Laws governing insurance.
