Protective orders issued on behalf of minor children under Chapter 209A (abuse prevention) and Chapter 258E (harassment prevention) would automatically remain in effect after the minor turns 18, unless a court orders otherwise

Upon reaching age 18, the plaintiff (former minor) may appear in court on the order's expiration date to request an extension or permanent order

Courts would determine whether to extend protection for additional time reasonably necessary or enter a permanent order

Adds new Section 9A to Chapter 209A and new Section 11A to Chapter 258E of the General Laws
