Establishes a 5-member nominating committee consisting of designees from the House Speaker, Senate President, 2 gubernatorial appointees, and the executive director of the Massachusetts Center for the Book

Poet laureate serves a 2-year term with the mission of promoting appreciation for reading and writing poetry among residents, especially school children

Nominees must be Massachusetts residents and submit biographical, professional, and representative materials demonstrating their poetic accomplishments by February 1 biennially

Massachusetts Center for the Book may provide a stipend and expense reimbursement for the poet laureate, subject to appropriation
