Chain pharmacists may transfer prescriptions to another pharmacy within the same chain when medication is out of stock, provided the prescription is valid, the receiving pharmacy has the medication in stock, and the patient consents to the transfer.

Transferred prescriptions must be for the same medication, dosage, and quantity as originally prescribed.

Chain pharmacists may provide a 60-day or 90-day extension on transferred prescriptions if deemed necessary.

MassHealth recipients would not be required to make any copayment for brand-name drugs that are medically necessary or have no generic substitution available.
