County and municipal government employees may receive up to 30 days of paid disaster service leave per 12-month period when serving as certified American Red Cross disaster volunteers or members of organizations including Civil Air Patrol, Coast Guard Auxiliary, volunteer fire departments, EMS, rescue squads, or Community Emergency Response Teams

Governmental units may waive pre-approval requirements and increase leave days during prolonged or recurrent disasters if in the best interest of citizens

Local governments may provide paid leave for jury service, uniformed services training or active duty (up to 30 days), and compliance with subpoenas for court, grand jury, administrative proceedings, or depositions

Administrative leave with pay may be granted to immediately remove employees who pose a threat to themselves, others, or property, or who cannot perform duties due to extraordinary circumstances

Effective October 1, 2025
