Maryland Higher Education Commission must add a question to the Maryland College Aid Processing System application by August 1, 2025, asking whether the applicant has missed a meal due to inability to afford it in the previous 6 months.

Students cannot be required to answer the food insecurity question affirmatively to be eligible for financial aid.

Original provisions to expand food supplement benefits (SNAP) to college students in work study programs were removed through amendments before passage.

Effective date is July 1, 2025.
