Schools must notify parents or guardians on the same day when a student attempts or accomplishes an elopement (leaving school campus without permission from a responsible staff member)

Schools and IEP teams must review and address wandering or elopement behavior with relevant stakeholders at least once annually when updating a student's individualized education program or behavior intervention plan

Schools must develop policies and procedures to implement elopement-related requirements under the new subtitle

The law takes effect July 1, 2025, and applies to public elementary, middle, and high schools, the Maryland School for the Blind, the Maryland School for the Deaf, and nonpublic schools
