Convictions from other states, federal courts, military courts, or Native American tribal courts can now serve as predicate offenses for enhanced penalties for repeat sex offenders in Maryland

Repeat offenders convicted of fourth degree sexual offense face up to 3 years imprisonment and/or $1,000 fine, compared to 1 year and/or $1,000 for first-time offenders

Qualifying prior convictions include rape, sexual offenses in the first through fourth degree, child sexual abuse, and related offenses under Maryland law or equivalent crimes in other jurisdictions
