Financially dependent children of State or local public safety employees who die in the line of duty are exempt from paying out-of-state or out-of-county tuition at Maryland public institutions of higher education

Eligible public safety employees include career or volunteer firefighters, ambulance/rescue squad members, law enforcement officers, correctional officers, and Maryland National Guard members who were State residents at time of death

The tuition exemption applies regardless of which state or county the child resides in

The Maryland Higher Education Commission is required to adopt regulations to implement the program

Effective date: July 1, 2025
