Beginning with the 2026 general election, all seven elected members of the Wicomico County Board of Education will be elected from individual councilmanic districts, eliminating the previous system of five district members and two at-large members

At least one student member must be added to the board as a nonvoting member, selected through procedures established by the county board

Student members must be 11th or 12th grade students in good standing, serve one-year terms beginning July 1, and may not attend closed sessions unless invited by majority vote of elected members

Annual compensation is set at $4,000 minimum for the chair and $3,700 minimum for other elected members, or a higher salary if set by the Wicomico County Council

Student members are entitled to expense reimbursement and may receive a scholarship authorized by the county board, but no other compensation
