Vessel operators involved in collisions or accidents resulting in bodily injury or death must immediately stop, return to, and remain at the scene until they have rendered assistance and provided their name, address, and vessel identification

Leaving the scene of a boating accident causing bodily injury is punishable by up to 1 year imprisonment and/or $3,000 fine; leaving the scene of a fatal accident carries up to 5 years imprisonment and/or $5,000 fine

Enhanced felony penalties apply when the operator knew or should have known the accident might cause serious injury or death: up to 5 years/$5,000 for serious bodily injury, up to 10 years/$10,000 for death

Failing to render assistance or provide identification after a boating accident is punishable by up to 2 months imprisonment and/or $500 fine
