Creates a new 10-year dismissal timeline for defendants found incompetent to stand trial who are charged with first-degree murder or sexually assaultive behavior, replacing the previous 5-year limit for these serious offenses

Maintains the 5-year dismissal period for felonies and crimes of violence not covered by the new 10-year category

Keeps the 3-year dismissal period for misdemeanors and other offenses not classified as felonies or crimes of violence

Allows victims who have filed a notification request form to petition the court to extend the dismissal timeline, in addition to the existing authority for the State to petition for extensions based on extraordinary cause

Takes effect July 1, 2025
