Designates chromite as the official State mineral of Maryland, adding Section 7-326 to the General Provisions Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland

Chromite was first discovered in the United States in 1808 by Isaac Tyson, Jr. in Bare Hills, Baltimore County

Maryland's chromite region provided most of the world's supply of the mineral until the 1850s, exported via Baltimore Clipper ships from Fells Point

Chromite deposits are found in six Maryland counties: Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil, Harford, Howard, and Montgomery
