Emergency evaluation petitions are effective for 5 days after court endorsement, replacing the previous unspecified timeframe

Courts may extend petitions for up to 5 days at a time upon motion by the original petitioner showing good cause based on the individual's presenting behavior, with a maximum total duration of 30 days

Courts must include the expiration date on all emergency evaluation petitions

Peace officers are explicitly authorized to use reasonable and necessary force when executing emergency evaluation petitions, in accordance with § 3–524 of the Public Safety Article
