Teachers in public middle and high schools may remove students from the classroom for repeated documented interference with learning, or for unruly, disruptive, or abusive behavior that significantly interferes with instruction

Teachers who remove a student must document the behavior, submit documentation to the principal, and send the student to the principal or guidance counselor

Principals may return the student to class, place them in another classroom, assign in-school suspension, place them in an alternative program, or restrict participation in school activities

Principals cannot return a removed student to the teacher's classroom without the teacher's consent, unless all parties determine it is the best or only option available

County boards of education are prohibited from taking disciplinary action against teachers who remove students in accordance with this section; effective July 1, 2025
