Prohibits transporting a firearm in a checked bag on public transportation in Maryland unless the firearm is secured with an external safety lock (key or combination lock device that prevents discharge)

Applies to all public transportation available to the general public, including bus, train, ferry, and airline service

First conviction: misdemeanor punishable by up to 2 months imprisonment and/or $500 fine

Second conviction: up to 6 months imprisonment and/or $1,000 fine; third or subsequent conviction: up to 1 year imprisonment and/or $2,000 fine

Takes effect October 1, 2025 and supplements existing federal and state firearm transportation laws
