Law enforcement agencies must file administrative charges for misconduct cases not requiring charging committee review within 1 year and 1 day after the appropriate official became aware of the incident

When alleged misconduct is subject to a criminal investigation, administrative charges must be filed within 1 year and 1 day after either: the determination that the matter is not criminal, final disposition of criminal charges against the officer, or notice that prosecutors declined to file charges
