Cooperative housing corporations, condominium associations, and homeowners associations are prohibited from requiring sensitive information as a condition for accessing recreational common areas such as swimming pools, playgrounds, game rooms, and reading lounges.

Protected sensitive information includes Social Security numbers, Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers, birth certificates, racial or ethnic origin, national origin, citizenship or immigration status, religious or philosophical beliefs, and medical records.

The prohibition applies to unit owners, occupants, their guests, and their children seeking access to shared recreational facilities.

Government-issued photo identification such as a driver's license is explicitly excluded from the definition of sensitive information and may still be required.
