Licensed funeral establishments, crematories, and reduction facilities must notify and transfer unclaimed veteran remains to the Department of Veterans and Military Families if a veterans service organization does not claim them within 10 days of eligibility notification

Applies to cremains, hydrolyzed remains, and soil remains (from natural organic reduction) that qualify for burial in a state veterans cemetery under § 9–906 of the State Government Article

For soil remains, reduction facilities must transfer the remains to the Department and may also transfer any balance of soil remains to a cemetery or woodland protected under the Forest Conservation Act, if authorized

Eligible dependents covered include a veteran's spouse, unmarried children under 21, and unmarried adult children who became permanently incapable of self-support before age 21
