Removes the requirement for gubernatorial approval when the Maryland Parole Commission grants medical parole to incarcerated individuals serving life sentences with the possibility of parole

Under current law, the Governor has 180 days to disapprove medical parole decisions for life-sentenced individuals; this bill eliminates that review period entirely

Medical parole remains available only to individuals who are so chronically debilitated or incapacitated by medical or mental health conditions that they are physically incapable of presenting a danger to society

The Maryland Parole Commission retains full authority over medical parole decisions, including review of medical evaluations, discharge planning, and case management information

Effective date: October 1, 2025
