Counties may apply for appointment of special police officers to protect county employees and public officials while present in the county, expanding beyond the existing authority to protect only government property

Special police officers employed by a county for employee/official protection may exercise full police officer powers when necessary to protect the specific employees and officials they are assigned to protect

Amends Maryland Public Safety Article Sections 3-303 and 3-307 to add this new category of special police officer authorization

Effective date: October 1, 2025
