Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services prohibited from refusing to hire, discharging, or discriminating against employees or job applicants solely for authorized medical cannabis use

Protections apply to qualifying patients under Maryland law and individuals authorized to use medical cannabis under other states' laws

Department retains authority to prohibit employees from performing duties while impaired by cannabis

Department may prohibit cannabis use within 12 hours immediately preceding an employee's shift

Effective October 1, 2025
