Maryland General Assembly joins seven state legislatures and over 75 municipalities in passing a "Back from the Brink" resolution urging reduction of nuclear weapons risks

Urges Maryland's Congressional Delegation to cosponsor a 119th Congress resolution supporting the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and five Back from the Brink policies: eliminating nuclear arsenals, renouncing first-use, ending presidential sole launch authority, removing hair-trigger alert status, and canceling modernization plans

Urges the U.S. President and Senate to endorse the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which 73 nations have ratified as of September 2024

Notes Maryland taxpayers contributed an estimated $2.1 billion in FY 2024 toward the nuclear weapons complex, while the U.S. plans $1.7 trillion in nuclear arsenal spending over 30 years

Directs copies of the resolution be sent to the Governor, state legislative leaders, Maryland Congressional Delegation, the President, Vice President, and congressional leadership
