Mandatory retirement age for State Police Retirement System members increases from 60 to 62 years old, except for the Secretary of State Police who has no mandatory retirement age

Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) eligibility and participation age limits increase from 60 to 62 years old, allowing members to continue working and accruing DROP benefits for an additional 2 years

Current DROP participants who began before June 1, 2026 may elect to extend their participation by up to the lesser of: remaining years to reach the 7-year maximum, remaining years to reach 32 years of eligibility service, or until reaching age 62

Extensions for current DROP participants must be elected by December 31, 2026 or the end of their originally selected DROP term, whichever applies, and require approval from the Department of State Police Director of Human Resources

Effective date is June 1, 2026
