Health insurance carriers must provide a 60-day special enrollment period for individuals newly hired to work at least 30 hours per week by small employers that do not offer employer-sponsored health plans

The special enrollment period applies to both coverage purchased through Maryland's Individual Exchange and coverage purchased outside the Exchange, and extends to the employee's dependents

Employees must submit a Commissioner-developed form completed by the employer confirming the first day of employment and the minimum 30-hour weekly schedule

Coverage becomes effective on the first day of the month following plan selection
