Sheriff of Anne Arundel County elected or appointed on or after July 1, 2026 gains vesting rights in the Employees' Pension System after 8 years of eligibility service, reduced from the standard 10 years

Eligible sheriffs may retire with a normal service retirement allowance at age 65 with at least 8 years of eligibility service, or when combined age and years of service total at least 90 years

Provisions do not apply to any sheriff serving in a term of office that began before the effective date, in accordance with Article III, § 35 of the Maryland Constitution

Individuals appointed or elected after the effective date to fill an unexpired term are eligible for the new vesting provisions immediately
