Beginning with the 2030 general election, the Baltimore County Board of Education membership changes from seven elected members and four appointed members to nine elected members and two appointed members, plus one student member

Elected members will represent each of the nine councilmanic districts (increased from seven), with voters in each district electing their representative in nonpartisan elections during gubernatorial election years

The Governor will appoint two at-large members (reduced from four) during presidential election years from nominees submitted by the Baltimore County School Board Nominating Commission

Of the four members appointed in 2028, two will have terms ending in 2030 and two will have terms ending in 2032 to facilitate the transition

Effective date is October 1, 2026
