MD HB1149

Removes the requirement that a State claim must be in arrears for at least 2 years before the Comptroller can settle it, allowing settlement of claims regardless of how long they have been overdue

Applies to claims against persons who receive or collect State money, their sureties, or any other person

Comptroller must thoroughly examine each claim and be satisfied it cannot be collected through legal process before settling

Comptroller may reduce or eliminate principal or interest owed to the State when settling claims to best serve State interests
