Local school systems may award standard high school diplomas posthumously to deceased students who were enrolled in grade 12, residents of the county, in good academic standing, and within a certain number of credits from graduation

Posthumous honorary diplomas may be awarded to deceased students who were enrolled in grade 11 or 12 and within a certain number of credits from graduation

In memoriam diplomas may be awarded to deceased students who were county residents or enrolled in any grade from kindergarten through grade 10

Diplomas may only be awarded upon written request from a parent, legal guardian, or next of kin of the deceased student

Posthumous honorary and in memoriam diplomas are ceremonial only and confer no legal rights; none of the posthumous diplomas count toward graduation rate calculations
