County boards of education must establish an appeal process for public school students determined academically ineligible to participate in interscholastic athletics

Students must receive written notice of the ineligibility determination, the basis for it, the appeal process with timelines, and the earliest available hearing date

Upon filing an intent to appeal, students receive provisional eligibility to continue participating in practices and competitions for up to 10 school days or until the appeal concludes, whichever comes first

If the school upholds the academic ineligibility determination after appeal, the ineligibility takes effect the next school day

Effective July 1, 2026; does not restrict schools from suspending/expelling students or enforcing attendance policies
