Medical examiners must release the body of a deceased Muslim individual within 48 hours after completion of an autopsy, accommodating Islamic burial practices that call for prompt interment

Acceptable forms of notice that the deceased was Muslim include: the deceased's will, a document executed under § 5–509 of the Health–General Article, notice from next of kin, confirmation from an imam or mosque, or information about pre-established Muslim funeral arrangements

Adds new Section 5–312 to the Health–General Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland
