Law enforcement agencies may impound motor vehicles with 3 or more unpaid automated traffic enforcement citations that are overdue by at least 30 days

Impoundment is permitted only as a secondary action during a traffic stop for another suspected violation, or when the vehicle is parked

Automated traffic enforcement systems covered include red light cameras, speed cameras, school bus cameras, stop sign monitors, work zone speed systems, bus lane monitors, railroad crossing systems, noise abatement systems, and vehicle height monitors

Primary provisions take effect October 1, 2026, with amendments related to specific enforcement systems taking effect July 1, 2028 and July 1, 2029 based on termination dates of prior legislation
