Washington County Health Department may exempt residential property owners from all or part of on-site sewage disposal regulations (COMAR 26.04.02) if compliance would be unduly burdensome

Applies only to properties in Agricultural (Rural) or Rural Village zoning districts with conventional septic tank systems in place as of June 1, 2026

Applicants must demonstrate that unique property characteristics, existing infrastructure, or system location makes compliance financially or physically impracticable, supported by a report from a State-licensed on-site wastewater professional

Exemptions are personal to the property owner (do not run with the land), expire after 3 years or upon title transfer, whichever comes first, but may be renewed unlimited times
