Campaign finance entities may use funds for security expenditures to protect candidates, elected officials, their immediate family members, and staff when threats arise from their political activities or associations

Security expenditures cover electronic security system installation and monitoring, personal security services, and reimbursement to the State for security-related goods and services, but may not be used to purchase firearms

Total lifetime security expenditures for any individual candidate or elected official are capped at $10,000

Tangible security items must be returned to the campaign finance entity or reimbursed at fair market value within 1 year after the threat ends, the official's term ends, or upon sale of the protected property

Campaign finance reports must include descriptions of threats necessitating security expenditures, with documentation verified by law enforcement, using State Board-required forms
