State entities and political subdivisions are prohibited from assigning Confederate names to real property they own, including streets, buildings, parks, and subdivisions

"Confederate name" is defined as any name commemorating the Confederate States of America (1861-1865) or any person or entity that voluntarily served the Confederacy in military or civilian capacity

Political subdivisions covered include counties, municipal corporations, unincorporated towns, school districts, special districts, and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission

The prohibition applies prospectively only; existing Confederate-named properties are not affected
