Custodians must allow inspectors general created by state or local law to inspect public records, even records that would otherwise be denied under the Public Information Act

Access requires that state or local law authorizes the inspector general to inspect the record and the inspector general needs it to perform their duties

Any redisclosure of records obtained by an inspector general remains subject to the same restrictions under the Public Information Act

Amends Section 4-301 of the General Provisions Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland

Effective date: October 1, 2026
