Expands Maryland Capitol Police jurisdiction from specific state buildings to statewide authority to investigate and enforce criminal laws, parking laws, and motor vehicle laws

Increases the protective perimeter around state-owned or state-leased buildings from 1,000 feet to 2,000 feet in any direction

Adds protection of public officials as an explicit duty of the Maryland Capitol Police

Requires Capitol Police to notify local law enforcement agencies (chiefs of police, State Police commanders, Baltimore City Police Commissioner and Sheriff) as soon as reasonably practicable when exercising statewide enforcement powers

Effective date: July 1, 2026
