Elevates threats against public officials from a misdemeanor to a felony offense under Maryland Criminal Law Section 3-708

Increases maximum imprisonment from 3 years to 10 years for making threats to kill, kidnap, or physically injure protected officials

Doubles the maximum fine from $2,500 to $5,000

Protected officials include: State officials (including Governor and Lieutenant Governor), local elected officials, deputy State's Attorneys, assistant State's Attorneys, and assistant Public Defenders

Effective date: October 1, 2026
