Local law enforcement agencies operating correctional facilities must enter into immigration enforcement agreements with the federal government under 8 U.S.C. § 1357 (287(g) jail enforcement model) by January 1, 2027

Agencies may apply for a one-time waiver from the Governor's Office of Crime Prevention and Policy to delay compliance until July 1, 2027

Non-compliant agencies must, upon federal request, detain individuals for up to 48 hours and transfer them to federal immigration authorities beginning July 1, 2027

Agencies that release individuals in violation of detention requirements are financially liable for housing and court costs if that individual is detained or arrested by any law enforcement agency within 5 years
