Each county board of education must develop and implement a policy by the 2026-2027 school year prohibiting students from using personal electronic devices during school day hours and requiring devices to be stored off the student's person.

Personal electronic devices include portable devices for voice, image, or text content, but exclude school-provided instructional devices and medical devices prescribed by healthcare professionals.

Students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 Plans may use personal devices for documented purposes under their plans.

Schools must designate one or more telephones for students to contact parents, guardians, or other responsible adults during school hours when necessary.

Disciplinary measures for policy violations may not include suspension or expulsion solely for violating the device policy.
